2011 will see the return of the Portlaoise Try-athlon for its 3rd year! The gun will go off on Saturday, April 9th as hundreds of Triathletes of all experience levels take up the challenge. This event has been specifically designed with beginners in mind and is a great opportunity for many to dip their toe into the exciting world of Triathlon for the first time!
The race distances which athletes will cover are:
- Swim 750M’s
- Bike 20Km
- Run 5Km
The swim will be based in a pool, which will mean that beginners wont need to worry about getting a wetsuit or tackling open water swimming. Instead they can focus on covering the race distance in the best time possible. The Bike section is described as being “moderately challenging”, with a flat run course to finish the race!
Portlaoise Triathlon is run by Triolgy Triathlon club and is billed as a great opportunity for those taking part in Try-Athy to get in some early practice! The field will be made up of both individual Triathletes and also Relay teams, meaning that those who may not feel ready for a full Triathlon can still take part in the race through the Relay option!
