The Hunters Trail Run is a slippery and challenging off road race which takes place 15 minutes outside Dublin, in Co. Wicklow!
The course is made up of a 5K loop which goes through thick forest, hilly fields and over a number of obstacles! Both the 5K & 10K competitors start at the same time with the 10K covering the 5K course twice. As we arrived at the Hunters Trail Run on race morning, the sun was shining and autumn was definitely in the air. We parked up in a field next to a number of cars and made our way to registration to get checked in. We hadn’t booked online (which you can do), but registering on race morning was no problem and we were greeted by helpful and friendly organisers.
The field was made up of competitors of all levels of ability and there was a good buzz amongst participants before the race began. Once everything was ready it was time to race!
Hunters Trail Run – The Course
I have to say that when the organisers promised a Trail run they didn’t disappoint. We found ourselves running through forest trails, clambering over obstacles and sliding down muddy embankments. The course was well marked and a water station was located at roughly the halfway point on the course. By the time we reached the finish line our legs & runners were covered in mud and we were completely wrecked but happy! A good mornings work.
At the finish line we were provided with water and bananas and an awards ceremony was held for those who placed in each race. Overall this was a great event and the perfect way to kick off a saturday morning. Soon after the event, race results were emailed to all competitors and race photos were also made available on the race website for all to view.
Would we do the Hunters Trail Run again? Yes, definitely. Its a well organised event, with a great atmosphere and very interesting route!
